Manuel J. Rodríguez Pérez

Manuel Rodríguez-Pérez is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese. He received an M.A. in Hispanic Studies, B.A. in Spanish, B.S. in Biology, and a minor in Chemistry from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. For his Master’s research he examined literature of the late 19th century and looked at the 20th century to determine ways that realism affected the literary movements of each decade. He explored how this “snapshot” of reality may have evolved into the protagonist’s reality in contemporary literature called “fabricated realism”.  His current interest focuses on comparing novels from both the Iberian and Yucatán peninsulas to show how the narrative techniques of realist writers, of each region, continue to shape contemporary novels.
