Biography —
Juan Pablo Román is a Ph.D. Student in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. He received a B.A. in Modern Languages from the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas in Bogotá, Colombia. He also studied a MFA in Creative Writing from The University of Texas at El Paso and, after that, he received M.A. in Spanish from the University of Kansas. His current research explores how discourses on race, gender and class shape the ideas around the nation in South American narratives from the 19th to the 21st centuries.
