  • Minor in Spanish

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese offers a minor in Spanish consisting of eight courses, 20 credit hours, in which students pursue studies at the intermediate and advanced levels. The minor in Spanish is designed to enable students to achieve cultural, literary, and linguistic competence in Spanish. Many students fulfill some of the requirements for the minor through courses taken in study abroad programs offered by the department and the Office of Study Abroad. The Department also sponsors semester programs in Salamanca, Spain, and Buenos Aires, Argentina, with opportunities to complete requirements in the minor.

Our faculty, lectureres, and graduate teaching assistants are dynamic, professionally active, and committed to excellence in scholarship and teaching. Intermediate and advanced undergraduate courses in grammar, composition, conversation, literature, and culture are offered every semester on the Lawrence campus, and in summer study abroad programs sponsored by the Department in Argentina, Costa Rica, Spain, and Brazil.

The Department encourages each student to visit the department to plan the coursework and to declare a minor in Spanish. Please make an appoinment with Amy Schmidt, Advising Specialist by calling 785-864-3500. She will review the requirements with you and assist with the paperwork for declaring a minor.
