Wednesday, March 14, 2018

LAWRENCE – The University of Kansas School of Languages, Literatures & Cultures will host its first commencement recognition ceremony in 2018.

The ceremony will take place at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 12, in Woodruff Auditorium in the Kansas Union. During this event, graduating students from the departments of African & African-American Studies; East Asian Languages & Cultures; French, Francophone & Italian Studies; Germanic Languages & Literatures; Slavic Languages & Literatures, and Spanish & Portuguese will be recognized for their academic achievements.

“The students graduating from the SLLC represent some of KU’s best and brightest who have invested in their futures as citizens in a complex, hyperglobalized society,” said Marc Greenberg, SLLC director and professor of Slavic languages & literatures. “We look forward to seeing where these students’ curiosity and talents lead them in their lives and careers.”

The KU School of Languages, Literatures & Cultures was established in fall 2014 and emphasizes the central importance of language and culture for a 21st century education in a globalized world. The first graduation recognition ceremony marks a milestone for the school and will bring a new tradition to students of languages other than English at KU.

Graduating students are encouraged to visit sllc.ku.edu/graduation for detailed event information and to register for the event.
